Cost Details:
1) Lodging: At Montreat Conference Center; all rooms are expected to be in the main
building, “Assembly Inn”, and include two twin beds and a private bath.
Room assignments will be handled by the Reunion committee, not Montreat (that’s just the
way they do it). In case any more desirable rooms than the main-building standard rooms
become available to us (there are a very few queen or king bedrooms at Montreat, mostly in
the annex buildings) they will be assigned by lottery through a drawing open to all
registered couples who are interested.
Although we encourage all attendees to stay at Montreat to minimize time and energy lost
to commuting (Asheville proper is 20 minutes away), if you have friends in the area and
wish to stay with them, note the non-resident rate above. That rate includes everything the
other rates include, except for lodging.
2) Meals: The Montreat kitchen staff will provide three meals a day, starting with Friday
dinner and ending with Monday lunch. They will also provide coffee and tea for breaks.
One exception to the provision of three meals a day by Montreat is the likelihood that we
will have Sunday night’s dinner catered by an interesting local food purveyor. Such a
dinner will be covered by your conference fee.
The only other exception to the inclusion of three meals a day by Montreat is Saturday
night’s dinner. Saturday night has been designed as our “Night Out in Asheville”, with
attendees free to sample (at their own expense) any of the many great area restaurants,
and to then proceed to the public panel discussion that we are presenting at an Asheville
location.
Finally, if your travel schedule means you will not be present for the Friday dinner or the
Monday lunch and can let us know before August 1, the cost of those meals will be
refunded to you.
There will be no refunds for meals not taken at Montreat other than those listed above.
3) Panel and party: Attendees will be admitted free to the Saturday evening public panel
discussion “Photography Then and Now” in Asheville, and are invited to an after-panel
private house party at Ben Porter’s home in Asheville.
4) Conference fee: This covers our meeting room rentals, A-V equipment for
presentations, panel member honoraria, and some other incidental costs. there will be no
additional charges (we’ve all had enough of that from the airlines), except for the option of a
bus from Montreat to Asheville and back for our Saturday night out.
5) Local Transportation: You are responsible for your own transportation to the grounds of
Montreat Conference Center.” In addition to providing a later update on taxi and car service
options for getting to the site from the airport and other transportation centers, the reunion
will also do it’s best to facilitate connections between people wishing to share rides.
